$250 Cash Prize awarded at Club Level Oratorical Contest
Local Student Wins Optimist Club Oratorical Contest
Jackson, Miss – Juliet Buckholdt, a junior at Ridgeland High School
recently won the Jackson Optimist Club’s oratorical contest based on a theme of “Is There a Fine Line Between Optimism and Reality?”
Buckholdt was awarded 1st place for the honor, which included a $250.00 cash prize. In addition, Buckholdt will be sent to the zone level where she will compete against winners from other Optimist Clubs in the area. The winner of the zone competition will be sent to the District level with the chance to win a $2500 scholarship, and then possibly on the Optimist International Regional/World Championship for a chance to win an additional $5,000 or up to another $15,000 scholarship.
“Juliet did a wonderful job presenting her speech about the questions posed to her.” Club President Dr. Sunny Fridge said. “The members of our Jackson Optimist Club have no doubt that Juliet has a bright future ahead of her.”
